Norwegian Museum of Hydro Power and Industry

The industrial heritage of Hardanger gives an account of the dramatic changes of the 20th century. In the midst of Tyssedal, an active industrial area, stands this interesting and innovative museum. It administrates Norway’s largest preserved cultural monument, Tyssedal power plant, with the impressive Tysso I power station as a monument to modern Norwegian history and architecture. Here you can witness the gripping development from 1890 to modern times, presented in a multimedia program. Wander freely around the displays and sales gallery. Groups may book a guide for the impressive power station as well as tours to Skjeggedal valley with its dam. A journey exploring the history of the Hardanger Fjord is recommended. Start your tour with a visit to Skredhaugen (The Bernhard Greve Collection) at Lofthus, and then drive to the Norwegian Museum of Hydropower and Industry. Continue from there to Agatunet and finally the Hardanger folk museum at Utne. Board the ferry from Utne to Kinsarvik on your return to Hotel Ullensvang.
