Røldal - Stave Church and winter skiing

This full day excursion primarily follows road no. 13, which is one of the seven ”tourist highways” in Norway. Starting from Hotel Ullensvang, you will pass Tyssedal and Odda, making your first stop at Låtefossen twin waterfalls. You can’t miss it as the road actually goes through the waterfalls. Next stop is Røldal, a mountain village with a beautiful 14th century stave church. The legend tells that a crucifix in the church is able to heal people’s illnesses every midsummer´s night. From Røldal, the road winds through Bratlandsdalen valley to the villages of Suldal and Sand.
These villages host the largest hydroelectric power plant of Northern Europe, as well as small village museums and a ”Salmon Studio” where you can watch the underwater wildlife of Suldal River. A steam boat ride on the Lake Suldal is possible by appointment. A short ferry ride takes you from Sand to Ropeid where you continue driving through fjords and across mountains back to Ullensvang.
