The Barony of Rosendal

A full day excursion to the only barony in Norway, today a thriving museum. The castle of Baron Ludvig Rosenkrantz and his wife Karen Mowat was finished in 1665. From here, their many and large properties around western Norway were administrated. The family was very wealthy, as you will see when visiting. The baron and his descendants were admirers of art and music and the house has very many beautiful paintings (J.C. Dahl, H.F. Gude, M. Møller, A. Askevold and Edvard Munch). The tradition of house concerts is kept alive, even today. There are art exhibitions, plays, and guided tours through the castle and the fantastic 300 years old renaissance rose garden. Homemade pastries are served in the Tea Lounge and lunch is served in the Garden Café. The excursion can be made as a round trip of Hardangerfjord and the Folgefonna Peninsula, incl. the 11 kilometres long Folgefonna tunnel.
