All meals are served in our dining room, known as Spisesalen. We are well known for our huge “Ullensvang buffet” – with an impressive range of dishes from our proud chefs, mostly home-made food.
From the buffet, you can choose some of the best produce from the sea, prepared in a number of different ways, or delicious meat products for sandwiches and an array of salads. The buffet also includes hot dishes with local traditions such as hakkasteik (pork, veal and mutton minced meat with barley) and soured cream porridge, alongside a wonderful selection of meats, fish and seafood all prepared with a focus on fresh produce and flavour. Every good meal should end with something sweet. Our chefs prepare a rich choice of cakes all made in the hotel, marinated berries, jellies, ice cream, a wonderful cheese board and – an absolute favourite – home-made crème caramel.
The dining room can seat up to 400 persons. In addition, there are two smaller dining rooms – the “Komponisten” (Grieg’s dining room) and the “Meteorologen” (cabinet minister Nils Hertzberg’s dining room). Total capacity is therefore 500 persons.
Breakfast: 07.00 to 10.00 from Monday to Saturday/ 07.00 to 10.30 on Sundays. Included in the room rate.
Two-course lunch: 13.00 to 14.30.
Hot dishes: 13.00 to 17.30.
Dinner: 19.00 to 21.00 (included in the price if you have booked half board). Ullensvang Buffet is served daily during the summer months and w-ends. Outside these periods, either a tasty 3-course dinner or Ullensvang buffet is served (depending on the amount of guests).
We can also provide guests with a packed lunch if they are going on an excursion: We recommend ordering your packed lunch the evening before so you do not have to wait.
“Zanoni” – A la carte restaurant
“Zanoni” is our intimate à la carte restaurant, offering both Norwegian and international dishes with an Italian influence.
The kitchen has an open design and the restaurant is modern and stylish with wonderful views of the Sørfjord (Hardangerfjord) and the Folgefonna glacier.
Zanoni restaurant is open during the summer season (June to mid-August) from Monday to Saturday. We highly recommend to book a table. Our à la carte restaurant is best suited for adult diners.
There is a small lobby bar beside reception, serving sandwiches, cakes, other light dishes as well as local drinks. Open from 08.00 to 22.00.
The hotel's main bar is located on the 1st floor. There are several lounges and rooms next to the bar where you can enjoy a pre-dinner drink or cognac after your meal. You are very welcome to use the lounges after a meal to relax.
“Munkens Trøyst” wine cellar
Behind the beautifully carved doors in the lower ground floor, you will find the hotel’s wine cellar, named “Munkens Trøyst” which translates as “The Solace of Monks”. The name has been inspired by the ancient monastery that was once in Lofthus. The focus here is on delicious drinks, local traditions and culture related to drinks. You can sample a range of beers and wines, not forgetting the wonderful cider made in Hardanger. The décor will take you on a trip back in time.
The actual wine cellar building is part of the original hotel building from when it was developed in 1865. “Munkens Trøyst” is the perfect location for a pre-dinner drink (max 35 guests) or a special private dinner (up to 16 guests).
